PERSONAL TESTIMONY

David A. Shaffer was born on May 8, 1954 to Elvis (deceased) and Mary Ellen Shaffer.  Having the advantage of a solid Christian home, I accepted Christ as my personal Savior at the age of 7.  At the time, we were attending the First Baptist Church of Clearwater, Kansas, but because of the constant falling away of the American Baptist Convention, my parents left and began attending Glenville Bible Baptist in Wichita, Kansas, pastored by Dr. J.J. Adrian.

After being grounded in the Independent Baptist Movement, my father desired to see a work established in Clearwater.  In 1968, Ninnescah Bible Baptist Church was formed and, at the age of 13, I began to lead the music.  I graduated from High School and entered College in 1972.  I also began serving as part-time paid staff at the church, pastored by Dr. F. Dean Price.

In 1978, I felt God call me into the pastorate.  I left for Baptist Bible College in Springfield, beginning school in January of 1979 at the age of 24.  I served faithfully at Cherry Street Baptist Church, Rev. Kenneth Gillming, pastor, serving in the choir, then as college chorale director and assistant to Rev. John Smith in the college department.

After graduating from Baptist Bible College with a 3.86 G.P.A., with honors and on the Dean's List, I went to work at Glenville Bible Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas, Dr. Gary W. Grey.  I ministered as Associate Pastor, as well as in the Youth and College departments and director of the Bus Ministries.  In July of 1985, the Board of Deacons at Glenville ordained and commissioned me into the Gospel ministry.

I believe strongly that church growth comes from pastor to church relationships, members to members, as well as, church to church relationships.  Evangelistic efforts, Bible Clubs, prayer and encouragement meetings, Ladies’ Bible Studies and Retreats, men’s prayer meetings and breakfasts, monthly Deacon, Trustee, and Mission’s Committee meetings that contemplate financial and spiritual growth are essential in the growth and well-being of a thriving church.  I strongly believe in the accountability of pastor, staff, church board, and membership to the Lord and to each other.  Information is the key to communication and communication is the key to understanding.

Vickie was also reared in a Christian home.  She  made a profession of faith early in her childhood, but always felt that her profession was coaxed and manipulated.  While in her late teens, deeply convicted by the Holy Spirit, she finally submitted the fact that she had never accepted Christ.  She then truly repented of her sin and turned by faith to Jesus.  She was baptized following her salvation at Glenville Bible Baptist Church, Wichita, KS.
