It is a known fact that for a person to practice law in the United States of America they must first pass the bar exam. Nationwide, some 28,110 men and women failed the test in 2004, for a 64% pass rate. The bar exam is the big cutoff line that really seems to make the difference according to senior lecturing fellow Denise Reibe of Duke Law School, and author of the book, Pass the Bar. The bar exam is a one day multiple choice and essay question test that is required to pass before anyone can legally practice law.
Breaking the LawSpiritually speaking there is a lot to be said about the Law as well. The first five books of the Bible are known as the Law. The ten commandments are known by many as the Law. The apostle Paul said in the New Testament that the Law is a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. James 2:10 says, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. The law was sent to show us our inability to keep the law with perfection. According to Scripture, the only person to ever keep the law without error was the Lord Jesus Christ. We see in Hebrews 4:15 that He was, in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Guilty or Not Guilty?
Every day, in courtrooms across our country, judgements are passed upon cases brought to court by lawyers of all sorts. When a law has been broken, the attorney must stand with the accused as an advocate as the case is brought before a judge. Some clients are represented by lawyers provided by the state, and others are able to afford high priced attorneys to represent their case. Judgements are passed guilty or not guilty based on the evidence provided and how the case is presented by the attorney.
Two Judgments
Just as those who violate the laws of the land must stand before a judge, so will every person that lives.
All born again Christians will stand before what the Bible calls the judgment seat of Christ. According to II Corinthians 5:10, everything done in our bodies will be judged before Christ.
Every human being that does not have a personal relationship with Christ will stand before what Scripture refers to as the Great White Throne Judgment. Revelation 20:11-12 tells us: And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Not Guilty
The only way to pass the examination just described is by having a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. I John 5:13 says, These things have I written unto you that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
