A message from our Pastor...

"Give Attendance to Reading"
1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

This year will mark the first annual Book Worm Banquet for Neuse Baptist Church. The Book Worm Banquet is attended only by those readers that have finished the minimum amount of books required for 2007. In 2007 we had a total of 14 readers to qualify for the banquet. Our winner, who wants her name to be withheld, read a total of 26 books! Praise the Lord! For the year of 2008 the minimum amount of books to read is 8 to qualify for the banquet in January of 2009. Whether you are a part of the Neuse Baptist Church family or not, I would like to personally challenge you to read. C.S. Lewis said, "No book is really worth reading at 10 years of age that is not equally worth reading at the age of 50." Victor Hugo said, "It is from books that men derive consolation in the troubles of life." During his presidency Theodore Roosovelt read at least five books a week. Even with the busy schedule of a president you can find time to read. Let me challenge you to turn off the TV (timewasting vice) and pick up a book. Just to whet your appetite I will list several good reads for the year of 2008. 1. To the Golden Shores; by Anderson 2. The Tale of Three Kings; Gene Edwards 3. Baptist Foundations in the South; William Lumpkin 4. America in Crimson Red; James Beller 5. The Saving Life of Christ: Major Ian Thomas 6. Shadow of the Broad Brim; Day 7. Be a People Person; John Maxwell 8. On Eagles Wings; George Truett 9. Why Revival Tarries; Leonard Ravenhill 10. Lingering at Calvary; S. Franklin Logsdon Good Reading!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Rev. Dan Helvey
