F.L.Y. Youth Group
WELCOME to our F.L.Y. page!
My name is Kevin Zander, and I am the Youth Pastor at Neuse Baptist Church. My wife, Alana and I have had the awesome privilege of working with your wonderful teens since August of 2009. Just a few years ago, we never would have imagined that we would be in a position like this, but God had other plans for us. When we were asked to take over the youth group, we jumped right in and have never looked back! We are constantly amazed at how much we are blessed by your teenagers. When we are ministring to the youth we always find ourselves being ministered to as well.Your teenagers ALL have such a desire to serve Christ.
We have 2 small children of our own, Carter and Ava, that are just as much a part of the youth group as the teenagers. Carter and Ava go on most activites with us that we plan unless the activities are too long or are geared for specific ages. Carter and Ava love the teenagers and want to be with them all the time.
We asked the teens to name our youth group when we took over. We gave them several accronyms, and the one they chose was F.L.Y. This IS how our teens live...by faith.
WHAT IS F.L.Y. group?

F.L.Y. is YOUR child's youth group. We want your youth to have something they feel they created. Alana and I are there to minister to your youth and make sure they are making right choices and learning Godly applications to their lives, but we also allow the youth to have a say in the activites we have each month; what things do THEY want to do, what do THEY want to learn about, how can THEY serve in our church and serve our GOD. We are working with the teens to make them Godly examples and leaders among their friends in today's un-Godly world. We study various lessons about Christian characteristics, what Leaders are made of, being a REAL friend, and letting other people see Jesus Christ through them.

As part of F.L.Y., we have friendly competition among our teens. We split the youth group into smaller teams and the teams earn points. Each team has a name and Team Captain. (A 10th-12th grader that shows exceptional leadership in our F.L.Y. group can be a Captain.) The teams have chances to earn points for their team by reciting their weekly memory verse, doing devotions, coming to each service we have at church, bringing a REAL bible (not an electronic one), bringing visitors, doing servant deeds (ministering to others), etc. We keep weekly score sheets and at the end of our team competition, the winning team usually goes out for lunch or recieves a special prize. We think having smaller groups helps keep the teens accountable to others their age; someone they can share prayer requests with or call if they are struggling with something and just need a friend to talk to. This smaller group setting also helps our team leaders set the example for the younger teens so that when the time comes for them to graduate and move out of our youth group, other teens will be ready to take a leadership role. We have had various teams in the past, such as Coke vs Pepsi, Ford vs. Chevy, and our most recent, Epic Wars: Navy vs. Army vs. Marines vs. Air Force. The teens really seem to enjoy the spirit of competition, and this spirit helps motivate them as they learn verses, do devotions, and serve our Lord.
1. When does F.L.Y. group meet?
F.L.Y. group meets every sunday for Sunday School at 10am and every Wednesday night at 6:50pm
2. Where do I go?
In the education center, we are the room on the right just before
the kitchen....you can't miss it, You'll hear the teens!
3. Do you have activities throughout the week?
Yes! We have a Wednesday afternoon door hanging program that meets at the church around 4:00pm,depending on the weather. During this time we canvas nearby neighborhoods and hang pamphlets on the doors. This is just telling them our church is in the area and we'd love to have them worship with us. We then go to the mall and eat dinner. We will always be back by the time teen group begins.
We also have other activities going on throughout each month. Some past activities have included: Lock-ins, the Amazing Race, Where’s Waldo?, Mini-Golf, game night, bowling, and much more! When you come to a NBC teen group activity be prepared to have an awesome time! In order to participate in some activities you need to have a current Release Form.
4. What should I bring to youth group?
You should bring a great attitude, worshipful spirit, a Bible, and a pen.
5. What should I expect from teen group?
You should expect a great time of fellowship, snacks, worshipful God-honoring music, and teaching from God’s word.
6. What do you do during the summer months?
During the summer our teens make a trip to The Wilds Christian Camp in Brevard, NC. This is a time where they can get away from the world and focus on the Word. Also, we go on a mission trip once every 2 years. We normally rotate between a U.S. missions trip and an out of the country missions trip. This year our teens will be headed to Grand Junction, Colorado to work with Pastor Eric Turner in a church project they have going on. We also have tons of activities happening during our summer months!
7. What should I wear to teen group?
We ask that each of our teens wear modest, God honoring clothing to all
activites and services.
