Meet Our Staff

David A. Shaffer - Senior Pastor

I accepted Christ as my personal Savior at the age of 7.  While attending Glenville Bible Baptist in Wichita, Kansas, pastored by Dr. J.J. Adrian, my father desired to see a church established in our hometown of Clearwater.  In 1968, Ninnescah Bible Baptist Church was formed, and at the age of 13, I began to lead the music.  In 1978, I felt God call me into the pastorate and left for Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.

After graduation,  I ministered as an Associate Pastor at Glenville Bible Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas, under the leadership of Dr. Gary W. Grey.  In July of 1985, the Board of Deacons ordained and commissioned me into the Gospel ministry. I have pastored in Wyoming, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Ohio.  I began my ministry at Neuse Baptist Church in Raleigh, on Easter Sunday, 2010.

I believe lasting church growth comes from pastor to church, members to members, as well as, church to church relationships.  Evangelistic efforts, Bible Clubs, prayer and encouragement meetings, Ladies’ Bible Studies and Retreats, Men’s Bible studies and prayer meetings are essential for the growth and spiritual health of a thriving church.  I believe in the accountability of pastor, staff, church board, and membership to the Lord and to each other.  Information is the key to communication and communication is the key to understanding.

My wife, Vickie, was also reared in a Christian home.  She  made a profession of faith early in her childhood, but always felt that her profession was coaxed and manipulated.  While in her late teens, and deeply convicted by the Holy Spirit, she finally submitted to the fact that she had never accepted Christ.  She then truly repented of her sin and turned by faith to Jesus.  She was baptized following her salvation at Glenville Bible Baptist Church, Wichita, KS.

We are so thankful that God has moved us to Raleigh and is enabling us to minister to such great people as we have found at Neuse Baptist Church.

 Charles Hatcher - Associate Pastor

I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home with godly, faithful parents.  When I was six years old, my Pastor, Dr. Jim Blalock, preached about Heaven and how only those who knew Jesus Christ as their personal Savior would go there.  That night I realized for the first time that I was a sinner, and I trusted Christ as my Savior the next evening at home.

When I was twelve years old the Lord called me to preach, and I surrendered my life to His service.  The Lord led me to Crown College where I graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry and again in 2006 with a master’s of ministry. I met my wife, Brittany, in school, and we were married in 2007.

After graduating, I went to work at Beacon Baptist Church in Jupiter, Florida, as an Assistant to Pastor Jim Blalock.  After serving there for close to 5 years, God has led us to serve Him at Neuse Baptist Church with Pastor Shaffer.  My wife and I are excited about all that God has for us to accomplish together at Neuse for His glory.

 Kevin Zander - Youth Pastor

At the age of 8, the Lord revealed His plan for me. I obeyed the call from the Holy Spirit and was saved at a vacation bible school in my hometown of Westminster, MD.

My life thereafter was changed, but with little discipleship, I never really understood what God wanted from me in life. I kept searching until the Lord introduced me to my future wife. Alana grew up in a Baptist church, and the first time I visited church with her, the Lord took hold of my life in a glorious way. With the Lord’s grace and a servant’s heart I began to grow in my spiritual relationship with God. I surrounded myself with Godly examples and spiritual leaders, and I soaked up as much as I could from local new-testament Bible believing Baptist churches.

In 2009 the Lord revealed a new purpose: to show today’s youth what I was searching for so many years ago. I accepted the Youth Director position at Neuse, and with the help from my wife have encouraged our youth in the loving relationship we have in Jesus Christ, teaching the truth of God’s commandments in a world filled with the Devil’s ploys.

Alana and I were married in 2002, and God has blessed us with two beautiful children Carter and Ava.

Kay Hill, Sr. - Director of Missions

I trusted Christ as my Savior on November 11, 1944 in Saint Joseph, Missouri. I am a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, class of 1955. My wife, Venica, and I celebrated our fiftieth wedding aniversity in 2003. We are the parents of twin sons, Kay and Clay.

I am a fourth generation cabinetmaker. We have a family business, Kay & Sons Woodworks, which I founded in 1972. My sons are currently running the business, providing me the opportunity to travel to Baptist churches all over America, motivating them to do more for missions.

It has been my pleasure to serve the Lord as music director of Neuse Baptist Church for forty-eight years. Additionally, I have served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. In 1969, I was inspired by the musical presentation, “So Send I You”. As a result, I committed to aid missionaries in their efforts to reach their field.

I have been involved in Faith Promise Giving for forty-seven years. As a layman, it is my burden to challenge others in the joy of giving. The Lord has opened many doors over the years to share this burden. My desire is to spend the rest of my life encouraging churches to see the need of sending others around the world to share the Gospel. I have visited the mission fields of the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, and Mexico. I’ve also had the opportunity to assist in the building of several churches. I have spoken in mission conferences all over the United States and in the Philippines.

Please prayerfully consider allowing me the opportunity to share with your congregation the joy of mission giving and sending.
